The Galle Fort Boasts a Range of Activities. Explore Galle Fort’s narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse, and a growing collection of museums, art galleries, shops, restaurants and cafes. You may also want to sample its renowned Sri Lankan Street food and Home Cooking. The Galle Fort Maritime Museum, has, a great collection of exhibits found in underwater expeditions. Artifacts as old as 800 years salvaged from shipwrecks are on display. Or take a Bicycle ride to the Marina at dawn to choose your own fresh seafood from incoming fishing boats and have it prepared just the way you like it by the in house cook. For those who would like to venture far and wide, Hikkaduwa is only 30 minutes away, and offers a wide variety of Water sports including surfing, snorkeling, and jet skiing. Or go out to sea in a catamaran with the fishermen or take a boat ride along the tranquil Madu River past quaint rural villages. En route, visit the local markets, temples & craft and antique shops. Visit Kosgoda’s Marine Turtle hatchery – a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka.
